As a single batch this recipe makes 8 bread bowls or one sheet pan of buns.

This recipe worked great for bread, bowls, and hamburger buns but I didn’t like the flavor with sloppy Joe mix for some reason. Maybe it’s because I didn’t let it rise twice that day. We need to try again. Be very careful with the amount of flour. Start with only 4C. And go from there.

Ingredients

(12) • 6 cups - Bread Flour

(2T) • 4 1/2 tsp - Active dry yeast 2

(4t) • 2 tsp - Sugar

(4t) • 2 tsp - Salt

(4 1/2c) • 2 1/4 cup - warm water

(4T) • 2 tbsp - Olive oil

• Milk for brushing Dairy or plant-based

Instructions

Step 1 - Activate the yeast.

  1. Take warm water in a bowl. Add sugar and yeast. Mix, cover and let it sit for about 5 minutes or until frothy.
  2. After 5 minutes you will notice the water become frothy and foamy.

Step 2 - Mix flour and other ingredients for making the dough

  1. Take flour, salt, and oil in a bowl of a stand mixer. n
  2. Add foamy and frothy yeast water in the flour mixture.

Step 3 - Knead a soft dough

  1. In a standing mixer with the dough hook attached, Beat on low speed for 5-6 minutes and knead a dough.
  2. The dough should be thick, yet soft. And only slightly sticky. It should pull away from the sides of the bowl as it mixes. If it's too sticky, add more flour, 1 Tablespoon at a time, until it pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  3. Form dough into a ball.
